Action Short of a Strike (ASOS)
As of Monday 10th May 2021 University of Liverpool UCU members begin Action Short of a Strike (ASOS) against proposed redundancies in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
This action will continue until members are notified otherwise and will consist of the following:
- Working to contract
- Not covering for any absent colleagues or vacant posts
- Not undertaking any voluntary duties
Please read these guidance documents for more detail on ASOS:
Senior management intend to make 47 academic staff members in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences redundant by the end of May 2021 as part of a restructure titled ‘Project SHAPE’. The branch is opposed to these brutal proposals and regular updates and campaign materials will be available on these pages.
Hugely prominent colleagues in the community of responsible metrics for research have voiced their opposition to the Project SHAPE proposals and have written to the Vice Chancellor to reverse these proposals. The criteria being used to jeapordise the employment status of colleagues “seriously contravenes the principles of ethical and responsible use of research metrics.” The letters from the lead authors of the Hong Kong Principles and the authors of the Leiden Manifesto can be seen below.
Please share this document with students as to why we are taking strike action:
